Women Injured In Abortion Centers
Phoenix, Arizona (2001)
After losing his hospital privileges, Brian Finkel set up his abortion business in Phoenix, Arizona in the 1980's. Women began to complain of inappropriate sexual contact. Even his staff made complaints about him sexually harassing them and fondling sedated patients. The complaints went unheeded until 2001 when he was arrested on 16 counts of sexual molestation, one victim stating he held his hand over her mouth as he assaulted her. By the time of the trial in 2004, Finkel was facing 67 counts of sexual abuse and molestation. Of the one hundred women who contacted the police stating they were victims of his abuse, thirty-five actually testified, and the judge sentenced him to one year in prison for each of the women that testified. No one knows the actual number of women assaulted in his center.
Detroit, Michigan (2004)
It is illegal in Michigan to perform an abortion on a minor without parental consent or a judicial waiver. 15-year-old Tamiia Russell confessed to being 6 month's pregnant with her 24-year-old boyfriend’s child. His sister drove her to the Woman Care of Southfield facility to obtain an abortion. Tamiia bled so heavily she soaked through the mattress and died on the way to the nearest hospital from “Uterine infarction with sepsis, due to status post second-trimester abortion”. The abortionist, Alberto Hodari continued performing abortions until his license expired in 2013.
Denise Crowe was four months pregnant. The abortionist Romero Ferrer began the abortion at 1:00 pm. Twenty-five minutes later, Ferrer was still pulling fetal parts out of his patient and administered 20 units of Pitocin via an IV solution. Five minutes later, he added 125 mg of Demerol and 5 mg of midazolam (Versed, a short-acting sedative and amnesia-producing medication). Because "pt. was still reacting to pain", Ferrer administered additional doses of Demerol and midazolam. It wasn't until 1:45 that Ferrer completed the abortion. Denise was moved to the recovery room, where at 1:47 a "surgical assistant" noticed signs of cyanosis (blue coloring) in her fingernails. A nurse assistant was unable to get a blood pressure or pulse reading on Denise and they were unable to resuscitate her. Ferrer continued doing abortions until 2010 when Maryland finally suspended his license. It took four years for Maryland to act.
Laura Hope Smith was 22 when she sought an abortion at Rapin Osathanondh's office. She was 13 weeks pregnant. She did not leave his facility alive. He was charged with manslaughter, the complaint alleging that he failed to monitor her while she was under anesthesia, delayed calling emergency services when her heart stopped, and later lied to try to cover up his actions. He was
convicted of those charges and sentenced to 6 months in jail after admitting in court to behaving in a wanton and reckless manner that endangered Smith’s life.
Sherika Mayo, went to Summit Medical Associates in Atlanta, Georgia for the elective abortion of her 25-week unborn child. After the abortion, while in the recovery room, she went into cardiac arrest and was transferred to Atlanta Medical Center where she underwent a hysterectomy and bowel repair. Medical records indicate that vigorous blood product replacement was undertaken, but Sherika coded in the I.C.U. where she died.
When 18-year-old Antonesha Ross came to the Women's Aid Clinic seeking a first-trimester abortion, a doctor examined her and found that she had an upper respiratory infection with swelling in her throat and "beefy red" tonsils. The abortion would have to wait, the doctor told her. But when Ross returned six days later, they went ahead with the abortion without documenting that Ross' infection had been treated. Antonesha died after going into cardio-respiratory arrest.
Delta Women’s Clinic in Baton Rouge has a long history going back at least to 1998 of violations and filthy conditions. Two women, Ingar Weber (acute kidney failure) and Shelia
Hebert(cardio-respiratory arrest due to acute asthmatic bronchitis" after "surgical termination of pregnancy), are known to have died from botched abortions they received at Delta. In the 90's, the facility was pursued by the federal government for dispensing drugs illegally. Delta Clinic admitted that it failed to report the carnal knowledge of minor as required by law. Delta Clinic admitted that it failed to: provide pre-abortion counseling as mandated by R.S. 401299.35.6; maintain the confidentiality of patient records; gather and report complete information to the Office of Public Health Vital Records registry and failed to ensure sterilization of syringes and
intravenous injections to prevent infection and cross-contamination.
Denver, Colorado (2012)
A Denver Planned Parenthood office and four unidentified employees are being sued for failing to recognize child sexual abuse when they gave a 13-year-old girl an abortion and birth control. Planned Parenthood did not report the molester, nor did they comply with the law that required them to wait 48 hours before performing the abortion.
Two former nurses at the Planned Parenthood of Delaware abortion facility quit their jobs, citing unsafe, unsanitary conditions, and “a meat market-style of assembly-line abortions.” Jayne Mitchell-Werbrich and Joyce Vasikonis testified before the Delaware state senate and called the clinic conditions “ridiculously unsafe,” and said women were at risk for hepatitis and AIDS.
Douglas Karpen has a history of botching abortions and deaths going back to 1988 when he killed a young girl in a botched abortion. Three of his workers were recorded stating he killed infants born alive with his bare hands. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fhyJItGPko&feature=youtu.be).
Muskegon, Michigan (2014)
Abortionist Robert Alexander had his license suspended for 6 months after “The decapitated head of a fetus was in the woman’s abdomen and the large intestine had been grasped and pulled away from its blood supply and into the vagina. The woman required a hysterectomy, colonoscopy and several units of blood to save her life.
Cleveland, Ohio (2014)
LaKisha Wilson had an anbortion at more than five months pregnant that led to her death. Abortionist Lisa Perriera dismembered LaKisha's baby. The abortion was given in violation of Ohio law that required a test for viability at 20 weeks and beyond. It is also believed LaKisha was beyond the 20 weeks allowed by Ohio law. In March and April two 911 audio recordings related to two separate abortion-related medical emergencies took place at the same clinic where LaKisha died. During both incidents, abortionist Lisa Perriera was on duty according to eyewitnesses".
New Jersey (2015)
April of this year, Brigham transferred the centers to Vikram Kaji a confirmed sexual offender who had improper contact with 3 patients according to the New Jersey medical board and gave improper breast and rectal exams to another 2 patients. His license was revoked in New York because of sexual misconduct and drug abuse. It was also documented Kaji participated in a forced abortion on a minor in 2005.
